Pequea Church in cooperation with Brethren In Christ World Missions have placed Nicaragua as a priority in sharing the love of Christ with our world. You can learn more about BIC World Missions on their website.

We will be sending teams of people over the next few years to various towns and cities within the country of Nicaragua, primarily centered around Managua, the capitol of Nicarauga. Managua is located on the West Central side of the country. We’ll work with the Brethren in Christ churches in Nicaragua to make a difference in their community and therefore change their country and make a difference in the Kingdom.

What are the dates for trips?

Pequea Church plans trips based on the need in Nicaragua and builds teams based on those who fill out the missions application. If you are interested in being considered for a future trip please be sure to fill out a form right away!

What will we be doing in Nicarauga?

Our trips to Nicaragua are not the same as our Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) missions trips. While the primary focus of MDS trips is to rebuild homes and work as hard as you can at a construction site, trips to Nicaragua are different. We spend time establishing relationships and sharing the love of Christ with the people of Nicaragua. We help with a range of construction projects like digging, painting, and building walls – whatever it may be, our goal is to be working directly with the Nicaraguan people and the relationships with them are as important as the project.

Our teams will be given multiple opportunities to attend worship at Brethren in Christ church(s) in Nicaragua, shop locally, see sights, and see God working in a whole new culture!

How much does a trip cost?

Pequea Church commits to trips to Nicaragua as an entire church. The cost per person is usually around $2,000 but it is not left up to you alone to raise these funds. The team together will raise funds to support the trip. Individuals are required to pay for a updated passport and/or current shots.

Is a passport required?

Yes. Traveling outside the United States requires an up-to-date Passport.

Do I need shots?

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has a list of shots they advise travelers visiting Nicarauga. We provide details on shots required and when they are needed before travel.

What is the age requirement to participate on this trip?

We ask the participants to be at least 18 years old.

How do I sign up for a Pequea Church Mission Trip to Nicaragua?

You will need to fill out an application for approval. You may fill out an application here or get a paper application on Sundays at the Guest Service area.

Who is selected for trips?

Each trip requires a different set of criteria in their applicants. It is important that we place people on trips that would be the best fit to meet the trip needs. This could include looking for people with specific skill sets or experience or it may be a “newcomers” trip where we want those who are new to the world mission’s experience. Please keep in mind that we often receive more applications than we have availability. Sometimes we simply don’t have enough room to take all applicants.

Do I have to be a member of Pequea Church?

You do not have to be a Pequea member; however, members will be given a higher priority than non-members.

Do I have to attend Pequea Church?

Those that attend Pequea Church on a regular basis will be given a higher priority, than those that don’t. You must be willing to attend and be an active part of the team meetings.  (Approximately 6 meetings)

What happens to my application if I’m not chosen for the next trip?

If you are not chosen, your application goes into a “waiting list.” When we plan future trips and we will once again look at our applications and work to build a new team that fits the new trips needs.
