Faith or Fear, it’s Your Choice

Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. A teacher told Thomas Edison that he was too stupid to learn anything. Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper because he lacked imagination and had no original ideas. I often run into people who are down trodden because of past failures. It pains me when someone says they can’t be used by God because they are not worthy enough or they can’t be forgiven. Not true!

In Hebrews 10 the writer tells us

10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

17 Then he adds:“Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,

22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Notice in verse 22 he says we have full assurance, but where does it come from? Faith! We trust that God has redeemed us through Christ and that we are forgiven. It was the blood of Jesus that covered your sin, it can overcome anything in your past. As the writer continues into chapter 11 he gives a long list of people who lived by faith and did great things. They were by no means perfect, nor did they all have a perfect past but what they did have was faith. They trusted not in their own abilities but in God’s power and promise working through them.

We should live each day knowing that God loved us enough to send his son to sacrifice for us so that we would be redeemed. And as redeemed members of God’s family we have purpose and abilities to accomplish the tasks that God sets before us. Don’t let the world judge your worth, show the world what a child of faith can do.
