Day One..What a Day

Posted on July 13, 2009

WELL HERE WE ARE MONDAY NIGHT..WE BROKE UP INTO TWO GROUPS…GROUP “A AND WELL GROUP “B”…GO FIGURE…GROUP “A” TODAY SENT 4 PEOPLE TO SERVE BREAKFAST TO THE HOMELESS. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE TO CHANCE TO SLOWLY REACH OUT AND HELP THOSE IN NEED. GROUP “A” THEN WENT TO THE “LOVE KITCHEN”. THERE WE HELPED TO PREPARE CHICKEN LO MEIN, AND SERVED 300 PEOPLE IN A FEW HOURS…

MEANWHILE IN A DISTANCE LAND GROUP  “B”  HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WALKING DOWN THE SIDE WALK WHILE A MAN SPRAYED CHICKEN DROPPINGS AND BLOOD OFF OF IT….

THEN THEY HEADED TO MANHATTAN BIBLE CHURCH WHERE THEY MET SOMEONE WHO LEAD THEM SEVERAL BLOCKS TO A STREET THAT THE CITY OFFICIALLY CLOSES DOWN FOR 2 MONTHS DURING THE SUMMER. THEY DO THIS TO PROVIDE A PLACE TO HAVE ACTIVITIES FOR THE LOCAL KIDS IN A STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT. THE GROUP PLAYED WITH THE KIDS. DOING  SUCH THINGS LIKE CHESS, CHECKERS, WIFFLE BALL, FOOTBALL, CHALK…ETC.

DURING THIS ACTIVITY TIME A SMALL GROUP OF THE TEENS WENT BACK TO MANHATTAN BIBLE CHURCH TO HELP MOVE SOME BOXES AND OTHER ITEMS FROM A MAN’S ATTIC. …

AFTER ALL OF THIS WAS FINISHED BOTH GROUPS MADE THEIR WAY TO THE PARK SO WE COULD BEGIN OUR VBS. IN-ORDER TO DO THIS WE MUST AGAIN RIDE THE SUBWAY…DAY 2 ON THE SUBWAY THINGS ARE GETTING BETTER. WE STILL CAN’T FIND OUR WAY AROUND TOWN BUT WE CAN STAND WHILE RIDING..(WELL IF WE ARE HOLDING ON) I AM SURE BY THE END OF THE WEEK WE WILL HAVE SOME PROFESSIONAL SUBWAY SURFERS.

ONCE THE ENTIRE GROUP REACHED THE PARK WE SET THINGS UP FOR VBS. OH WHAT A TIME. WE BEGAN THE EVENT WITH FREEZE TAG..WHY DOES DAN MAKAUSKAS THINK HE HAS TO RUN FULL SPEED AWAY FROM 5 YEAR OLDS IN FREEZE TAG…WHAT A GREAT EXAMPLE. ONCE THE KIDS GOT SOME OF THEIR ENERGY OUT WE HAD THEM SIT ON THE TARP. WE THEN BEGAN TO SING. AFTER SINGING SOME SONGS WE HAD A PUPPET SHOW…OH WHAT FUN THAT WAS…WHAT REALLY DID HAPPEN TO THE FISH…HMMM STAY TUNED. ONE OF THE INTERNS FROM PRIORITY 1 DID A BIBLE LESSON ABOUT THE SHEPARD LOOSING HIS ONE SHEEP AND HOW HE LOOKED FOR IT. WE THEN TURNED THE LESSON INTO A CRAFT MAKING SHEEP WITH THE KIDS. THEN WE PLAYED A PAPER BALL GAME “BEST OF 3” AND THEN WE SANG AGAIN…I LOVE TO WORSHIP…

AROUND 5:30PM WE PACKED OUR STUFF UP AND MADE OUR WAY BACK TO THE SUBWAY FOR OUR HOUR + RIDE…..ONCE WE RETURNED HOME WE HAD SOME AMAZING DINNER…BRYCE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO GET SECONDS…OH WELL…AFTER EATING WE HAD WORSHIP AND DEBRIEFING…NOW WE ARE RELAXING AND NATE KREIDER IS TRYING TO TELL A RIDDLE BUT IS MES SING IT UP…YES WE ARE AT THE LIVE UP DATED HOUR…MORE TO COME.

Well, Duh! Bryce obviously needs seconds! Look at him?!?!? I wonder if this meant the food was good or wasn’t good??? Of course nothing compares to his mom’s cooking. Hope all is well. Praying for you guys as you touch the lives of those kids!
