Third Service F.A.Q

Posted on May 11, 2009
At the Congregational Meeting held on Monday May 4, Pequea Church announced that we will be adding a third worship service beginning on Wednesday October 7. The third service will take place each Wednesday night, and will mirror the previous Sunday’s services. The Wednesday night Club program (KidzKnexion) will not continue, and in its place, children’s programing that occurs on Sunday mornings will be offered in the exact same way on Wednesday nights. We will continue to offer the Community Meals every Wednesday. Understanding that this transition may be confusing to some of you, we have compiled this “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ) email to help you better anticipate what our fall schedule will look like.

The Brief Version:
Pequea Church services Sundays at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. beginning on October 7, 2009.
The Wednesday Community Meals will start at 5:45 p.m, also beginning on October 7.

F.A.Q

Why are we adding a third worship service?

  • We want a guest to feel welcomed by the environment of the church facility, as well as by the people of Pequea. Space considerations on Sunday mornings can make new people uncomfortable. They may not have a convenient place to park or a comfortable place to sit together with their family, and this may discourage them. The midweek service will allow for breathing room and continued growth in our services without additional need for parking and facility space.
  • We want to offer another service time for Pequea people who occasionally or regularly find it difficult to attend our existing weekend services.

Why is the third worship service happening on Wednesday nights?

  • In our community, there are many people with busy and changing schedules. The midweek service offers an opportunity to worship if your job, travel plans, or other circumstances keep you from being able to come on Sunday morning. No other church in our area offers a midweek option for worship.
  • Pequea’s Wednesday night programs currently attract many people from our community, and we hope to engage more of them through offering a worship service at the time when they are accustomed to visiting us.
  • A midweek service keeps the facility available on weekends for weddings, the impact ministry, and special events.

Does this mean no more KidzKnexion? Why would we end a successful program?

  • The KidzKnexion (Clubs) program will not continue, and in its place, children’s programing that occurs on Sunday mornings will be offered in the exact same way on Wednesday nights.
  • The decision to change our children’s programming was a difficult one, and Kids Knexion was a very successful program. However, as the church grows in size, we need to focus and prioritize our ministry efforts. Offering a children’s component to the Wednesday night worship service means teaching those children as much about Jesus as the children who come on Sundays.

Will the music & preaching be the same?

  • Yes; the music, preaching, and worship elements for each individual week will be consistent. The service that runs at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday will be duplicated the following Wednesday.

Will there be other classes offered on Wednesday nights?

  • During the first three months, the Wednesday night service will operate on a trial basis. Our hope is that it will grow and sustain itself beyond the initial trial, at which time we may offer additional Discipleship classes during the service. Our desire is that discipleship will occur through your regular home group, and those looking for “something to do” will use the freed up night to serve at Pequea or in the community. If your interested in joining a home group please contact Pastor Nathan Kilgore.

Are people encouraged to attend just one service each week?

  • For the most part, yes. We don’t intend to add a night of church committment to the schedule of everyone at Pequea.
  • We would ask that you consider making Wednesday night your worship time, at least for the months of October through December, if your work/family schedule promotes this, or if you currently attend the Wednesday night programs. Launching a new service will take dedication and involvement from both veteran volunteers and people who have yet to participate in the ministry teams of Pequea.

How can I help?

I am disappointed that the clubs program is being discontinued. I have watched as numerous families who are not in a service, at least not at Pequea, have come in and picked up their children week after week, until they are connected. These parents are often engaged by members and in many cases have followed their children here on Sunday morning. I have heard numerous families, outside the congregation, who have mentioned and been thankful for the clubs program at Pequea. It really seemed that this was one of the programs that defined us within the community.

Thanks for your feedback on the start of our Third Service. Please know that Pequea Church did not take this decision lightly. We are starting the third service on a 3 month trial period. If we are not able to reach more families through this new effort we will consider changing direction. Our hope is that moving in this direction will allow us to reach more families then we would have been able to do in the existing Wednesday night program.
